Something Old, Something New - 2021 Moviefest

Halloween movie playlists are the highlight of my year. Preseason has something for everyone with a basic subscription service. But the October season opens up premium content along with movies in theater while staying loyal to seasonal favorites. The only real challenge is choosing 31 films from all of the great content. Okay, Stay out of the Attic maybe not so great. But Shudder has really delivered the past year or so. And I saw three sequels in the spring that did not suck.  Then there are the series. The Haunting of Hill House, Fear Street, Creepshow, Channel Zero and Slasher to name just a few. Even the most bingeable binger has got to make some choices. So here’s what I did.

For 2021, I paired something old with something new for each day in October.  An entire month of double features. Genius, right?

First, the ground rules. Old movies are seasonal favorites – films that appear almost every year because it’s just not the Halloween season without them, the same films that are fodder for year-round horror. New films have not been on a Moviefest in the last 4 years and that’s just because my records end there. Even though horror movie binging has been our thing forever.

I toyed with adding wine pairings but then I found out that has been done already. Who knew?

Click on the Movie Calendar link for the full schedule and hover over the grid to see how we matched the films. I’m still working out some bugs with the new website so bear with me if the formatting is weird. Just drop me a comment and I will take care of it. Better yet, subscribe and get notified when new content is posted.

In the meantime, enjoy this year’s twist on Halloween moviefest. I hope you find something to put you in the Halloween mood as we dive into the season.
